Bolt-Ball: Home Away From Home Series

Nebraska Wins Series Against Nicholls in Manhattan, KS.

Nebraska (11-6-1) goes 2-1 against Nicholls down in old enemy territory. The Huskers had to divert south with the weather in Lincoln not screaming let's play outside.

Kansas State University was on the road, so the Skers got to take over for the weekend. However, Friday night was cancelled due to weather, turning this series into 3 games in 2 days.

We will quickly recap the series the best we can due to no stream being available for Husker Nation to tune in on.

Saturday had 2 complete opposite games for Nebraska's offense, and 2 of the same for the pitching staff.

In game 1, Nebraska couldn’t seem to come through when needed (a theme we have seen before this offense got red hot) but did just enough to eek out a 2-1 victory. The Big Red bats left 6 men on base while only striking out 3 times total in the ballgame. Simply, the ball wasn't finding the holes it needed. On the mound for Nebraska, Emmett Olson (Jr.) was splendid yet again. He threw a complete game allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 7. Nebraska scored in the 1st inning on a Charlie Fischer single, and in the 6th on a Dylan Carey single which ended up being the game winning hit.

As for the Colonels, their bright spot came from their side of the bump. A complete game from Senior LHP Tyler Theriot only allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. Theriot only threw 63 pitches against this aggressive Nebraska offense. Limiting this Nebraska offense has not been easy, so caps off to Tyler Theriot and the Nicholls defense.

Game 2 saw 17 hits from the Nebraska bats including 4 homers and a double. These home runs came off the bat of Brice Matthews, Efry Cervantes, and 2 from Max Anderson. The double came from Ben Columbus. Brice Matthews homer in the 6th was a Grand Slam that accounted for 4 of his 5 RBIs in the game.

Jace Kaminska missed barrels on the mound for Nebraska yet again. He went 5 innings allowing 3 hits and 0 earned runs.

Not much to say in the overview of this one, as the Huskers ripped through another pitching staff to put up 10 or more runs for the 6th time this season.

Game 3 got off to a slow start for the team in "Funeral" blacks. Michael Garza got the start for Nebraska, and he didn't have his best stuff. He only went 1 and 1/3 allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and 2 free passes. The bullpen made up of Perry, Worthley, Schanaman, and Sears couldn't put the hammer down and limit this one enough for the Skers to steal the sweep.

Nicholls Junior Parker Coddou must be highlighted in this one as he hit for the Cycle.

Coddou had quite the day going 5 for 6 with 3 R and 5 RBIs.

Nebraska will travel the 45 minutes to take on Creighton (7-7) tonight. The Jays are coming off a split series with Wichita State that included a 14 inning thriller in which they won.

With Nebraska standing at 0-1 vs In State teams, it will be interesting to see how much fire they play with tonight.

Brice Matthews was awarded B1G Player of the week. Matthews hit .500 (7-for-14) with a 2B, a 3B, two HRs, 11 RBI and four runs in four games against Omaha and Nicholls, while recording an OPS of 1.722 with a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .579 on-base percentage.
