Bolt-Ball: Mavs Midweek-B1G Look Back

Nebraska looks to even up on Omaha tonight. A quick glance back on the first 2 B1G series.

Nebraska hosts Omaha tonight in their 2nd meeting of the year. The Mavs took the first matchup 10-6 in Haymarket Park. The Mavs are 2-0 against their in-state rivals after beating Creighton (4-1) back on April 4th.

Nebraska is looking to keep building as they are coming off a series win @ Michigan and UNO is looking to get back on track after getting swept at home against Oral Roberts.

Nebraska has won 7 of their last 10 games and have won both of their first B1G series against Illinois and Michigan.

UNO has had a rough start to 2023 will a brutal schedule but this team has the lineup to really put some runs on the board.

The Mavs pitching staff has been their down side and Nebraska will have to expose that tonight to get the series evened up. These in-state games have some big implications on the recruiting trail for both of these squads, and for Trev Alberts as his previous school battles his new one.

One tab to follow will be who can limit the long ball more as Nebraska and UNO both crushed some baseballs this weekend. The weather forecast calls for some thick wind.

Max Anderson and Emmett Olson are coming off B1G Players of the Week wins. Anderson had a ANOTHER huge weekend at the dish for the Big Red and Olson dominated on Friday night.

A Quick Look Back

Nebraska took 2 of 3 against Illinois in a good showing in front of the home crowd. I attended the Friday night game where Alex Gordon, Darin Erstad, and Shane Komine all had jerseys retired. Atmosphere was 10/10 after Max Anderson launched a 3-run homer in the 1st.

Nebraska took Game 2 of that series and had the chance for the sweep but came up short on Sunday.

Michigan was a duel on the bump Friday night where Emmett outlasted one of the B1G leaders. He was splendid in the pitch count column and that makes all the difference for him.

Brice Matthews had the big swing in the 10th as he crushed a 2-run bomb to give Nebraska the lead.

Saturday, Nebraska's offense struggled to find its stride and left 13 men on base.

Sunday came and all those hits came out as Nebraska rolled to take the series from a 2019 CWS team.
